Featuring Illustrations & Fine Art Paintings by John Megahan

Artist Reception • Saturday, July 12th • 6-9pm

“Over the years I have studied lots of art and biology and finally ended up as an artist.”

OrcaJohn Megahan, painter, always had a dual love for Biology and Art. He began his professional career as a biologist doing research in Oregon and Alaska. Inspired by the beauty of the rugged landscape and varied wildlife, Megahan decided to combine his talents and become a biological illustrator.

After doing years of freelance work, Megahan became the Sr. Biological Illustrator at the University of Michigan’s Museum of Zoology in 1996. As an adjunct faculty member, he has taught several classes at the University’s School of Art. He continues to do freelance. In fact, he just illustrated his first book - a children's book called "W is for Waves" - published by Sleeping Bear Press.

John Megahan’s work is a stunning combination of precise realism and artistic expression. Inspiration is found in varied landscapes from deserts to sea coasts, serene rivers to austere mountain views. His wildlife portraits are truly captivating in their spiritual understanding of each animal he paints. Megahan is a member of AFC (Artists for Conservation), a worldwide organization comprised of only 500 selected wildlife and natural history artists.
